After the disappointment of the PlayStation 3, it's no wonder that Sony have spent the last couple of years trying to right some wrongs. So, with the launch of the Sony PlayStation 4 on the horizon, have you thought about whether you'll be splashing out on a new console?

A spokesman for PlayStation said that the hardware had been adjusted to ensure that programmers are able to develop great titles. This has led to the creators of the PS4 bragging that the console will have some seriously exciting games for fans to get their teeth into when it launches. Read More »

One of my dearest friends is about to dust off the shackles of the 9 to 5 in favour of the more laid-back pace of life and glorious sunshine on offer in Tanzania and who can blame her?

With only a couple of weeks until her departure, our almost daily phone calls will be replaced by carefully co-ordinated Skype chats, fitted in around work commitments, time differences and so on.

While for most people this would be the perfect way to catch up with their friends 'in person', for my part there's a small hitch... my ancient Dell laptop is sans both microphone and camera. Read More »

Is it worth waiting for the iPhone 5?

Apple is due to unveil the iPhone 5 at an event on September 12th with the phone most likely going on sale on the 21st. It is still unclear whether Apple plans to call it the iPhone 5 (this will be the sixth iPhone) although it does seem like the most likely name at the moment and the one that most people are rolling with.

Whether it ends up being the iPhone 5, iPhone 6 or just the "new" iPhone, one thing is clear: this will be the biggest design refresh since 2010's iPhone 4.

Delayed Gratification

As older iPhone models were launched mid-summertime there are currently many iPhone contracts coming to an end. If you fall into this group you may be asking yourself, "should I buy an iPhone 4S now or wait another month for the iPhone 5?"

Will the iPhone 5 offer any major advantages over the iPhone 4S and will the iPhone 4S become cheaper when the next iPhone is launched?

Looking back to 2011, many people delayed buying a new iPhone as they waited for Apple's next release. Although the iPhone 4 was available, there was a lot of reluctance to purchase it in the fear that it would become obsolete within the space of a few months. As many iPhone contracts came to an end, people patiently waited for a few extra months for the next model to be announced. Read More »

Superfast Broadband Here By 2013?

Internet connections have come a long way since the drawn out process that was dial-up and now many consumers wouldn't hesitate to call their providers if a page took longer than 10 seconds to upload. The blight of prolonged buffering has also largely been consigned to the past as a result of superfast fibre optic broadband. Computer, tablet and smartphone users can now surf the internet for hours on end without a care in the world.

Now things are set to get even better with Ofcom's announcement that fourth generation (4G) bandwidth for mobile phone services could be available in the UK from late 2013.

The telecoms regulator argued that it will begin the auction of two spectrum bands - 800 MHz and 2.6 GHz, at the start of next year. Read More »

New Study Suggests Technology and Social Media Fuels Anxiety

A growing trend amongst my circle of friends is the idea of TV-free households that hark back to the days when a good night in consisted of sitting around the wireless. However, while those who have joined this movement are prepared to relinquish their flat screens, they are more than a little reluctant to give up the tablets and smartphones that give them access to many of the same features. An overflowing inbox is enough to send the average phone user into a meltdown but now they could get a helping hand to reduce stress levels thanks to a handy app. Designed by the University of Portsmouth's School of Computing, the app uses colour coding to help sort the bad messages from those that are more neutral.

Incoming messages are automatically colour coded green for positive, red for negative and blue for neutral, arming users with more information before they open a message. Users can also self-label incoming text messages to suit their needs. Read More »

Samsung Galaxy S3 Just That Much Better Than iPhone 4S

Most people would say that the iPhone 4S is the greatest phone out there and that they are glad to own it. Sadly, they are wrong because a new phone has come to kick the nine month old champion off its throne. The Samsung Galaxy S3 has apparently blown the minds of reviewers, with many claiming that it is a much greater and more efficient alternative to the iPhone.

With about twice as much processing power, a larger screen and, most importantly, costing the same as the iPhone, the Galaxy S3 is proving incredibly popular. While the iPhone 4S is still at release price, if you want to spend that much cash on a phone then look no further than the Samsung Galaxy S3. Read More »

In the gaming world, there are four main platforms to play on. The PC, Xbox, Playstation and the Wii. When you want to get your hands on a shiny new and gleaming smartphone it is always very tempting to run into town and jump into the very first shop you come to because that gives you that all important quick release. We are not very good, as humans, at waiting for stuff especially when it comes to nice new tech like a smartphone. Read More »

Does it Get Any Better than LEGO?

One of the coolest things about being a kid (asides from the ability to be brutally honest towards unattractive or nasty people) is LEGO. I remember spending hours and hours building random shapes and pretending they were dragons or getting a Star Wars LEGO set and having a space battle. Unfortunately, LEGO has a fundamental problem.
