It's getting to that time of year when our thoughts turn to the summer. We've had glorious weather this bank holiday but knowing the Great British weather it probably won't last too long. So, if you're planning to escape to sunnier lands but you are operating on a shoestring budget, I'll show you how to get a brand new wardrobe without breaking the bank.

Whether your holiday is in a few short weeks or not until the end of the summer season, you can never buy your holiday clothes too early. In the next couple of months, the price of summer gear will shoot through the roof and you're likely to be left looking at the stuff that nobody else wanted.

One of my favourite shops for summer holiday clothes is Matalan. They have loads of great stuff and it's all reasonably priced as well. But don't forget that you have to be a member to shop there. If you don't have a card, you can sign up for one in store. Read More »

If you want to get away from the daily grind but don't have the cash or annual leave for a full-blown holiday, a city break is the next best thing. Short breaks to Europe have become increasingly popular, with Paris knocking New York off the top spot for the most visited destination in 2012.

Wouldn't it be lovely to jet off for a few days and leave your work and stress behind? Well, even if you're on a shoestring budget, you should still be able to bag yourself a bargain city break with some clever deal-hunting.

Whether you fancy exploring the local culture and history by visiting museums and galleries, doing a spot of shopping in quaint boutiques and gift shops or simply sitting back and relaxing on golden sands, you'll be able to find a city break to suit you on Hotels.com. Read More »

How to Prepare for a Summer Holiday Flight without Blowing the Budget

I love going on holiday. I love going to exotic places and travelling the globe. The one thing I don't love is the flight; I just get so bored. You know what being bored leads to, don't you? Spending money!

Whenever I'm going away, I manage to blow most of my budget on the flight! Whether it's paying for headphones, buying drinks/food and shopping at the airport; somehow I'm always a few quid shorter upon landing.

So this time I thought I'd plan ahead. I've got two weeks in Fuerteventura this summer and I really don't want to waste my spending money just getting there. However, with four or five hours to kill, I know I'm going to have to try hard. Read More »

It's coming up to the end of April and just about everyone is trying to think ahead to the summer even the miserable weather isn't helping much. To be honest, I'm expecting a summer that is similar to last year; cold and wet. So, I've booked a holiday!

I know it's still a few months away until I will be jetting off to a week of golden sands and hot sunny weather but, being a frugal girl, I thought that I would start preparing early. Read More »

Have you ever wanted to visit somewhere but not actually spend the night there? Sometimes it's cost, other times it's just a craving for fresh air!

Staying in any big city is expensive for obvious reasons. Just like the thousands of B&Bs and hotels, Travelodge has to pay for premium land and therefore charges you for it. However, there are a number of sites within a close distance to the city meaning that you can enjoy your city break without worrying about the price.

After much deliberation, I have picked the top 5 cities in the UK where staying at a Travelodge makes perfect sense. Read More »

You might have seen on the news that plans for an international bailout package in Cyprus comes with one outrageous caveat, there is to be a one-off tax on bank savings which will be applied to accounts in exchange for bank shares. Whilst there are no travel restrictions, if you're planning on travelling to Cyprus over Easter or the next few weeks, Tara Evans tells you what you need to know. Read More »

For some female travellers, packing for a holiday or mini-break either at home or abroad can turn into something of a military operation.

The task of fitting a full-sized hair dryer into a carry-on case is just one of the many challenges faced in attempting to ensure that our spell away from home isn't completely devoid of creature comforts.

And it seems that hotels across the globe have wisened up to the needs of female travellers, with an exceptional few prepared to do whatever it takes to cater to the every whim of their female guests, kitting rooms out with high-end toiletries, mirrors that offer the perfect reflection and more.

Carefree Brits Refuse to Scrimp on Holidays

In these dark economic times it seems that there is one aspect of British life we are not prepared to compromise on and that is our annual holiday. We recently did some research on the British traveller and found that over 65% of British holiday makers will come home having spent far more than they had budgeted for.

Almost a quarter of those surveyed claimed they overspent by a staggering 20% and 45% said they just added the extra costs to their credit cards. With the UK credit debt currently standing at 54.6 billion* it seems, for all the UK's belt tightening, we can't resist splashing out when we are relaxing in sunnier climates. So why are we so bad at budgeting and, more importantly, what can be done about it? Read More »

This is a guest post by Kara Gammell, Personal Finance Reporter at The Daily Telegraph

With half-term right around the corner, mums everywhere are looking for ways to amuse their little ones on the cheap.

Keeping the kids entertained is often a challenge at the best of times and all the more so when money is tight. In fact, new figures from Sheila's Wheels show that cash-strapped parents will shell out an average of £230 to keep their children entertained for half-term break, totalling £1.7bn nationwide.

But you needn't worry as, with a bit of imagination and planning, there are lots of ways to have fun without spending a fortune.

Three Ways to Choose your Next Summer Holiday Destination

This summer I'll be making my way to the Adriatic coast for a whistle-stop tour of Croatia. My reason for choosing this sun-kissed and culture-filled location, apart from the country's obvious charms, wasn't on the advice of a guidebook or in an attempt to dip my toe beyond traditional Mediterranean waters.

It was dictated by the fact that I had hosted a couple of couchsurfers from Pula and am now ready to have them uphold their end of the bargain. If free accommodation isn't an incentive to explore a country, I don't know what is! Read More »
