Fingernails are an important part of any outfit. They are a small detail
that, when done well, blend in perfectly with any look you wish to
portray. Ignore them, though and you inadvertently draw attention to
those ragged little nails and, as we all know, it's the little things
that make all the difference! This is a great time to play with display
of your hands; colour, patterns and classic designs are very popular.
For your fingers it's anything goes!
For those that love styles of the past, the half moon nail is back. Otherwise known as the reverse French manicure, this retro look has
Dita Von Teese looking as glamorous as ever. Though she is choosing to go with a classic fire-engine red nail and pale half moon bottom, there is no strict colour set to adhere to. In fact, I have seen many ladies upping the dramatics with black nails and alternating
half moon colour.
Patterns are also popular right now. If you're still a fan of the traditional french manicure but want to liven it up a bit, ask your manicurist to create a pattern on the tips of some sort. I myself am a fan of all over designs. Stick to one repeating pattern for each nail or choose the same colours but with a different image for different fingers. What's nice about this option is that you don't have to rely on a professional to create it for you. Many retailers are offering kits with
nail art appliques.
How far do you want to go? 'Nail Art' is the term applied to just about any nail with a rhinestone stuck on it. The truth is that manicurists are creating impressive mini-masterpieces on their eager clients tips right now. It seems like there is no end to the indulgence of colour and faux gems. Clever does not begin to describe the tricky little images, expensive does! These nails look amazing but getting them that way takes time and money. If you are lucky enough to never wash dishes, prepare a meal or open your own door, then these tiny investments might last for you. Otherwise this is the treat you purchase for yourself knowing it's going to cost you that really good bottle of wine!
