'A stitch in time saves nine' is a famous saying of many nans from around the world. The fact is though, this isn't just a saying… it's the truth. If the hem of my skirt was coming down or a sock needed darning, my Nan, sure enough would be the one for the job.
But, I've grown up, moved away and no longer have my Nan at hand to fix
my hems and darn my socks. Along with many other people, I've become
accustomed to just 'buying' everything new, the first sign of a hole or
loose stitch, it's gone – replaced with a newer and shinier model. But
things need to change; just last week the Guardian Newspaper reported
that the UKs disposable income will fall for the third year in a row and
that wage growth is 'disappointingly anaemic'. With a spiralling out of
control food bill and fuel costs that have sky rocketed, now more than
ever, it is important to 'make do and mend '.
