Have you ever had an outfit so good you wanted to wear it twice? Well, the good news is you can give your head to toe look more than one outing this summer and all within the space of a single day.
Picture the scene; you've just emerged from an indulgent swim off the coast of an unnamed tropical location and, before you can say sunset, talk emerges of a pre-dinner cocktail. With only a kaftan peeking out of your beach bag to cover your modesty and your hair bound into tiny ringlets after a thorough soaking in sea water, you begin to feel utterly bereft. What if the swanky beachside bar has a no flipflops policy? Or worse still what if you get an embarrassing gawking from locals when you breeze in sporting a white see through number that barely reaches mid-thigh.
For the more clued up fashionistas of this world, this day to night outfit transition would have played out as smoothly as the Olympics' opening ceremony with a little forward planning. Head out armed with a pair of shorts, some fold-up pumps and a few pieces of statement
jewellery and your outfit could have been instantly transformed in a matter of seconds. Here's how to wear one outfit, two ways.
Summer dress, flipflops, earrings and a waistcoatNothing says summer more than a floaty dress and, whether you choose bold prints, florals or a block colour, you can't fail to look fab as you stroll along the beach. If you are heading straight out for a seafood supper after your day of basking in the sun you can simply throw a canvas or jean waistcoat over the top of your outfit, add a large pair of hooped earrings in your favourite colour and you're good to go. No doubt your last-minute outfit change will get admiring looks from waiters and diners alike.
Cropped leggings, a vest top, chunky necklace and a pashminaCropped leggings are the ultimate in comfort and will keep you feeling cool and fresh all summer long. Vest tops are not only cheap but get them in the full spectrum of rainbow colours and you can switch up your outfits in the blink of eye.
Upgrade your
outfit for an early evening look by adding a chunky beaded wooden necklace and light pashmina to keep you feeling warm as the temperature dips. Throw your pashmina over each shoulder for a casual look or tie it at the back to make a stylish mock-cardi.
Khaki shorts are hard wearing and won't let those granules of sand cling on for dear life. Whether you like your khaki shorts in army green or a more neutral beige, these shorts help you tread the fine line between smart and casual. Team them with a loose white shirt and you've got the perfect outfit for a spot of sightseeing. Go from day to night with the simple addition of a large broach and a material or leather belt. This change is bound to catapult you into the fashion A-list.
Cropped dungarees, bandeau and a light cardiganYou don't have to be a teenager to pull off the dungarees look. There are plenty of ways to work the look through to your twenties and thirties. You can also choose from a variety of jean washes, from the more modest navy blue to the brazen acidic wash. If you aren't already wearing a bikini top you can wear a bright bandeau underneath your dungarees. Simply pop a light cotton
cardigan over the top of your outfit and, voila! You'll be ready to hit the town.
