ghd straighteners review ✨

Before I kick start my ghd straighteners review, I have to confess that like most girls, I have the ongoing battle of trying to keep my tresses tamed round-the-clock. Especially with the somewhat unpredictable London weather trying to make this as difficult a task as possible.

And believe me; I’ve tried countless straighteners, hairdryers, heat protection sprays, fixing sprays and glossing sprays – all without success. I either end up with a flat head or a bouffant and in the end, the hair always gets tied up to avoid Monica-esq embarrassment.

So when the team at ghd contacted me and asked if I wanted to test out their new electric pink platinum styler complete with paddle brush, heat protect spray and straight and smooth crème, I felt sure I was the right manic-maned girl for the job.

The ghd packaging

The goodies arrived shortly after in their luxurious packaging and I began to get excited – just as us girls do when we feel we’ve treated ourselves (or been treated) to something extra special!

ghd hair straighteners packaging

The hair straighteners were really cute and girly. I loved the pink and of course it’s really nice to know that £10 is going towards breast cancer awareness. I’ll remember that every time I use them.

ghd straighteners review

They come with the nicest carry case and heat pad protection covers too – perfect for when you’re worried about packing away your just-used hair straighteners and setting fire to your suitcase or at the very least leaving heat marks on your favourite top. Guilty as charged.

For my sins I have also been known to leave burn marks on my carpet after a hasty hair straightening session so I’m pleased that these heat protection covers will make mum happy now knowing I’m less likely to burn the house down.

Time to get styling!

I unpacked my brand new paddle brush and compared it to my sad old one. Why haven’t I upgraded sooner?

ghd hairbrush and styling products

I love the fact that my hand can fit around the whole of the paddle at the top for ultimate styling control and it’s almost like a mini head massage when I use it. Bonus points!

After washing and towel drying my hair I applied the straight and smooth crème which smelled beautiful. Like most girls I suffer from split ends and have never had much luck preventing them with blow dry creams or serums. I gave my hair a good blow dry and it definitely seemed silkier than usual.

Next, I sprayed my hair with the heat protection spray which can be used on damp or dry hair, and it smelled divine. I brushed the spray through and switched on my new irons.

ghd hair sprays

In true ghd fashion, the pink platinum styler heated up in a matter of seconds and glided through my hair in no time. I’ve got A LOT of hair and it took me around 20 minutes to achieve salon-worthy locks. Other brands I’ve used can take up to 40-45 minutes and hair can often look dull afterwards.

I’m not sure if it’s the straight and smooth crème, the ghd heat protection spray, the ghd straighteners or a combination of all of the above, but my hair looks super shiny and healthy without looking too flat or over-styled either.

The smell from the sprays has held too so I really do have that ‘just got out of the salon’ feel.

The before and after

Check out this before and after, and bear in mind the after was taken after I left my house and walked to work that morning #weathertested!

ghd straighteners review before and after pictures

The verdict:

I’m really really pleased with how vibrant and shiny my hair looks. I always feel so much smarter when my hair is slick and polished.

I had always suspected that ghd was the only brand capable of controlling my hair but using the ghd straighteners in addition to the styling products has given me better results than ever before.

I’d definitely give ghd a 10/10 for all the lush products they sent me.

Congrats guys! You’ve made the impossible possible and given me an all-round hair solution which is achievable in no time!

When your hair grows outwards and you look like a cheap Don King impersonator every day of your life a good pair of straighteners is essential! Even for a man! See pic on Facebook post for proof!

Being a mummy and getting a baby free night out is a rare occasion , I couldn’t wait to get dolled up & feel human with my make up on and hair all done I was ready to go out and dance the town red , it was about an hour after I left the house my friend noticed a biscuit moulded into the back of my hair (lovely daughter I have lol) I was so upset couldn’t get it out ending up breaking my hair and making it so frizzy . Anyone who seen the back of my head that night must have had a right laugh

My straighteners have just died a death and they aren’t coming back to life! I have hair like Monica so you can imagine the amount of bad hair days I am going to be having now! Every single day will be a battle with my hair, I don’t know how I am going to show my head in public! I now have no way to battle this beast of a wog on top of my head, oh the shame! This would not only be a life saver it would also save everyone else who is going to come in contact with me from now on in! Help me tame my mane, otherwise I may have to start considering dreadlocks!

My memorable bad hair day involved a fight with my vacuum cleaner. I owned a really powerful suction pet hair vacuum cleaner….I remember one day lying in my living room using just the nozzle of the vacuum to reach under the sofa…..The base of the vacuum however was not disable. My hair was quite long, a few inches below my shoulders and I had a fringe. The base of the vacuum began to suck my hair in and rotate so that my hair was totally entwined in the rollers. I was squealing and managed to hit the off button. It sucked a part in near the front of my hair. I had to shout on my 6 year old son to get me scissors and actually cut my hair off. I was totally mortified making it down to the hairdressers the next day for an emergency appointment!

I was so frizzy for the next two days I looked horrible and the humidity was making it so much worse so had to wear a pashima high up around my neck for the wedding! aggh

my hair was 22 inches long, almost to my bum, I went to the local salon to have a small trim and to thin my hair out, I came out in tears devastated as the ‘hairdresser’ (butcher) cut off 17 inches on my right side leaving me with 2-3 inches on top, and the rest thinned out so much you could see my scalp and neck.. she used thinning scissors on wet hair and literally chopped it all off! … I have posted a pic on your facebook post to show a before pic, a pic of my butchered hair and after with hair extensions that I am now forced to pay out for…. That is my worse bad hair day xx

My really bad hair day was when I was at college and a friend of mine was becoming a hairdresser, she asked me if I would have my hair cut and dyed for a assessment. Well it was the worse thing ever it was like out of a comedy film she cut my hair well buchard my hair I had a huge triangle cut out of the back it was all different lengths when she put the bleach on and we were sat there chatting I said to her my head feels hot she like no its okay by this time my head was burn in I said look I think it’s time so we went to wash it off all I could smell was burning hair , no word of a lie my hair was coming out in clumps I had white hair burnt scalp and half of it was missing I cried needless to say she never qualified which is a blessing for us all

My hair has always been wild. My hubby was going to an award ceremony to get his certificate which was in central London at a very important building. So I had to look super smart so I bought some products to curb the frizz. Plenty of time and I was pleased but my face felt funny it was burning. Yes I was having a reaction, the whole day spoilt with a burning and bright red face. But I was so proud of my hubby.

Just read your article and I’m thinking I can definitely give Monica a run for her money! Sadly for me, it’s more of a bad hair life than it is a bad hair day, however, to name one…think school talent show, spice girls impersonation, some very enthusiastic back combing, a pair of scissors, a peeved off mother and a very traumatised (nearly bald) 10 year old me…safe to say, it was several years before I could comfortably enjoy a sing along to ‘spice up your life’ again! :s…Fast forward 19 years and my straighteners are broke…as am I…(the life of a mature student is not a glamorous one)…so please Savoo…help me back to my hair glory days!

Had to be home dyeing! Trying to keep down my hairdressing costs I decided to colour my hair at home. Not only did my hair turn a strange orangey colour, but so did my bedroom carpet …unknowingly I dripped lots of the dye, ruining it and having to replace it. Major fail on all accounts AND a trip to the hairdressers to get my hair dyed to a colour where I felt happy to leave the hair without a headscarf on!

My bad hair days are always a staple to my wardrobe as it goes. Being a busy mummy and 34 weeks pregnant, mummy gets 8 minutes to try and get some me time to get dressed and hair sorted whilst they eat their breakfaSt’s and the day starts… there’s always “mummmyy” so my hair is always a unique look everyday

I have new hair growth right at the front of my head which curls and looks like little horns at either side of my haha! If I don’t straighten it i have devil horns and if I do my current straighteners send it frizzy! I can’t win lol

My hair is really frizzy straight after washing it, I’m not very good at blow drying as I seem to just make it worse using my fingers! I would love to have a proper brush to get the knots out and help with drying it. My hair can get dry too from the use of heat. I would love to have sleek, shiny hair from GHDs and have hoped for some for my birthday or christmas for about 8 years! This would be an amazing prize to keep my frizz under control and my hair looking shiny and healthy.

Probably my worst bad hair day was the day I had it cut seemingly by a hairdresser who thought she would bless me with Tina Turner style layers. I was only in my teens and of course she made it look great. The problem came when I had to do something with it myself. This was before straighteners were commonplace. I just looked horrific because I have really thick hair too! Arrrgh

I got talked into getting my hair dyed a mahogany type colour when I was at school, age 15. I thought it was okay but I turned up at school and the teasing started. I turned round, ready to stomp off home and the final straw was bumping into the girl that kept following me around with her stupid gang and calling me names. I’d had enough by the time she got her silly insults in and shouted ‘ at least I don’t look like I’ve put my fingers in the socket!!’ She was struck dumb and her followers all burst out laughing at her. The relief was immense and she never bothered me again!! SO a bad hair day turned into the best day ever!!

My hair is naturally quite curly but I wear it straight and have it cut into a jaw length graduated bob that goes up at the back. We went to a family fun day and the heavens opened. I spent the full day with curly damp hair, on the plus side, the kids loved the fun day and eventually the sun came out, just too late in the day to save my mop of curls!

When I was back in school, my sister was dying a couple of pink strands in her hair. I asked for some in mine, imagining a few thin streaks of pink that would look quirky and cool. The actual result was a rubbish faded pink in large chunks over the entire of my top layer of hair! My sister denied any knowledge of ways to wash it out – I had to go to school – High school!- with pink chunky highlights. So many laughs from people, that I still cringe over 10 years later! I should have learnt not to let my sister dye my hair again – a year ago, some normal blonde highlights turned into the top half of my hair being nearly white blonde, not a drop on the bottom half!! Lesson truly learnt.

I started going grey from the age of 21 & I’m now 39. It’s a nightmare having to cover the re-growth that continues to come through my dark hair. I also suffer with short sticky up re-growth hairs that are so annoying. So needless to say straitners are a god send.
My worst hair moment was when I had my hair colour on & when it was time to rinse the water had gone off. I was literally sweating with panic as I thought my hair would fall out if it wasn’t rinsed off any time soon. It was another 50 minutes luckily when the water actually came back on. But I was so worried I was going to be bald aswell as grey lol.

6 months ago I used my daughters hairdryer. I was using a round brush to gather hair and add volume to the roots when the right front section of my hair got sucked into the back of the dryer ( that’s when I realised the cover was missing) I ended up with an inch long side fringe from the mess that it left after I cut the mangled piece out. The smell was awful and it hurt too! When I told her that it was dangerous she just said – oh yes that cover’s been missing for ages

I remember when I was younger and gullible I got hold of a bottle of sun -in and thought I would just lighten my hair abit. Unfortunately my Mum came through my bedroom door just as I was applying it. I jumped and literally the whole bottle went over my head. I tried washing some of it out but with difficulty. I then dried my hair. My hair literally turned yellow. I know I wanted it lighter but that was ridiculous.

I was getting ready to go a family wedding, the hairdresser washed my hair and was blow drying, then she started to staighten, the she dropped the straightners then they would not work any more, my hair was half wavy and half straight, so had to re wet my hair and had to go with wavy hair that I did not want to have. I felt out of sorts all day because of this, hence I have not got the same hairdresser now.

I had very short hair when I was at Primary school. It used to stick up in all of the wrong places. When I was about 9 years old I found the perfect solution which was to wear my super cool navy blue PE knickers on my head before school which always did the trick. When I started secondary school, I grew my hair a bit longer and had an 80’s perm which probably counts as a bad hair day every day (but a slightly better look than the PE pants one).

I have really thick naturally curly hair. As a small child I always had my hair cut quite short, which I didn’t really like. I can remember leaving the hairdressers with my duffle coat hood up on quite a hot day, because I didn’t like my hair cut. Yes I had quite a few bad hair days then. My hair can still be difficult, but thank goodness for hair straighteners! I’ve been through quite a few pairs over the years, but I’ve never owned a pair if GHDs! When it was finished I had one side with really high tight curls and the other side was by my shoulders.i had 45 min before the taxi arrives so I ended having to wash my hair and just stick it in a bun. It was so stressful!

It was so bad that I didn’t want to leave the house and wrapped my hair in a scarf! Luckily the next day I found a product that reverses hair colour, so back to original colour. Sounds a bit tame, but when I was at school (so you can imagine the stick I got) I washed my hair night before and Mum didn’t believe me (although it looked as it had been washed). She washed it again and my hair went all greasy because she “washed it properly”. Of course there was nothing we could do about it. Learnt my lesson that day and always washed my hair when Mum was about lol. Finally grown out of that now though at 46.

It was more of a bad hair month…in my naive younger years a got my platted with extensions whilst on holiday; thought I looked the bees knees until it was time for them to come out…for the 1st week I looked liked coco the clown; my hair was like wire, unmanageable, frizzy & falling out..no amount of conditioning and straightening was sorting that mess. Finally after weeks of deep heat treatments I was able to pass a brush through my hair easily and at the stage to get 4inches of my hair cut as it was completely wasted…never again

Well I decided to dye my hair red, nothing unusual there as I’ve had red hair on and off my whole life but for some reason when my friend washed it off and we dried my hair – it was orange and not just a little bit!! I’m talking full on carrot colour!!I had to walk about like that for days!! Oh and the time I wanted curly hair so I had it permed and it ended up being so tight that my hair ended up really short! What I would have given for a pair of straightners then!!

I used to experiment with my hair lots as a young teenager. I had my hair every colour you could possibly think of and one time I went black. Being me, I got bored of it after a while and bleached it. Of course it went ginger and I thought “Sure, I’ll just bleach it again and it will go blonde!” no, wrong! Well, it did go a blonde/peach colour but the hairdryer wouldn’t dry it, it smelled like it was burning and the texture of my hair was like chewing gum. I had to give up and go to bed with my hair still wet. I went to the hairdressers the next day with my tail between my legs and she said it was the worst she’d ever seen. She had to cut it as short as possible without actually just shaving it all off. I have a round face too so I really didn’t suit a pixie style cut. I’ve definitely learned my lesson when it comes to bleaching hair – I haven’t done it since!

i needed my hair cut because me and hubby were having a couple of nights away in posh hotel! i’d spent ages looking for a good hairdresser after moving to the south so went with one that the most people had recommended bad mistake she was cutting away when suddenly it felt like she was cutting quite short at the back but she was only ment to be taking the ends off and giving me some layers she assured me it was just the layers and she’d not taken much off but i wasn’t convinced so asked to see it! i burst into tears the manager came over and ended up having to use clippers on the back and cutting the sides alot shorter to blend in i went from shoulder length to a short graduated bob it was a mess then they had the cheek to say that should be £32 but we will only charge you £16 i ended up not going away and i wouldn’t leave the house without a hat 3 hair cuts on a different salon and still trying to get it all the same length

    I know I’m getting older,
    and my body’s not winning!
My hair is getting greyer and
    now it is thinning!
But the worst day I had,
    was at a funfair,
    Sat on the Big Wheel,
    wind rushing through my hair!
    My hair was long then,
    almost down to my bum!
    It made me feel younger,
even though I was a mum!
    Anyway, there I was,
    enjoying the ride,
when the wind whipped my hair backwards,
and there was nowhere to hide.
It was caught on the bars,
    that kept you safely inside,
    so you couldn’t fall out,
and as hard as I tried,
    I couldn’t move my head,
    it was so very painful,
    my brother was with me,
    and he started to pull!
    My hair was stuck fast,
caught on a wee jagged part,
    I was panicking now,
I could even feel my heart!
    It was soon our time,
    for us to get out,
but my hair was stuck fast,
Oh I wanted to scream and shout!
    The attendant could now see,
    that something was wrong,
    he said he was sorry,
and soon my hair was no longer long!
He had had to cut it,
    to the amusement and stares,
    of everyone else watching
this big bloke cut off my hair!
They gave me a free hat,
    and they did apologise,
but that’s the very last time,
me and my hair reach for the skies! lol

Ps now I keep it short and prefer it that way!!! 😉 x

I can remember when I was about 19 having a tight curly perm at the hairdressers but it burnt my hair and I had to go round with frazzled hair for weeks until it grew enough to have it cut out.

My worst bad hair day ever was when I thought it would be okay to go to bed with slightly damp hair, woke up looking like I had been dragged through a bush. With I meeting at 10am I couldn’t tame it at all and after eventually being able to get a brush through it I ended up spraying it with a ton of hair spray and putting it in a right bun.

Well as a male with longish hair i have a rather funny bad hair day story, I sleep walk and do lots of random things whilst asleep (e.g. get dressed, re-arrange furniture even tidy up) but on this particular day i had managed to get my hands on a brush. The brushing must have gone on for hours because when i woke up i had managed to back comb my hair to within an inch of its life and it now stood upright about 6 inchs in every direction and took forever to rectify 🙂

I decided to use a hair stripper to get years of dye out of my hair. Looking in the mirror with it on noticed my hair was looking orange never thought anything of it. Washed it out my hair was bright orange put a brown dye on top which made it go brown with a green shade through it lesson learned will stick to my hairdressers . Although my work found it amusing bright lights in clothes shop showed it all up .

I’m afraid most days are bad hair days for me, I can never get my hair looking smooth. These products are probably just what I need so I’ve got my fingers tightly crossed….

I had the (not so) bright idea of smothering my hair with a thick layer of coconut oil after washing it one morning. Left it to soak in, then proceeded to rinse it off … again, and again, and again! After which I tried to dry it! Nope! No joy there either! Dry shampoo? No! Half a tin of talcum powder? (getting desperate now!) No difference whatsoever – in fact it looked worse! So I spent the day looking like I’d been stood on my head in a bucket full of lard! Not a good look!

One day I was going out and had lots of hairspray on, and I was driving to my friends with the car window down a little enough to get fresh air and the next minute a cigarette flew in lit. My hair started to syringe and the smell was awful, when I got out the car my hair was in such bad condition, safe to say I want be putting the window down in the car when I have lots of hairspray on

My worst bad hair day was when I was backbrushing my hair with a cheap round brush and it got stuck in my hair. It meant chopping loads of hair off so I went round to my daughter in laws with the brush still sticking at right angles out of my hair to see if she could remove it. She managed to get it out but still had to cut off quite a lot of hair!

My hair has a myriad of bad hair days. It is fine, yet lots of it – with a natural curl; not forgetting the calf lick that defies gravity on a continuous basis. I have a ton of school pictures that feature that calf lick prominently, which although delights the rest of my family as they mercilessly tease me when those photos come out at any large family gathering, simultaneously invokes a humour fail in myself. That calf lick has strong survival instincts – nothing can dampen its spirits, only a session with a GHD provides relief. However! I think my worst hair day was when I went as a mystery shopper to a local hair salon. Great, I thought; paid to have a wash and blow dry. Everything was going well – no delays, a coffee with a tasty Lotus Biscoff was promptly made and an abundance of glossy magazines in date for perusal. A young junior was assigned to wash my hair and away we went to the basins, with a nice fluffy towel around my shoulders. As I leaned my hair back into the basin and the water began to run, the hose was put directly to the top of my head …and it was scalding hot. It completely burnt my scalp and I let out a scream and jumped up in pain. The junior hadn’t tested the water temperature before applying and now my scalp was red raw down to my neck. The Senior Stylist took over and ran cold water over my head for a good ten minutes to reduce the pain and asked me if I wanted to continue. I didn’t! But I wouldn’t have been paid if I hadn’t done the whole assessment so I had to grit my teeth as my hair was blow dryed on the lowest setting and felt every second of the pain as they brushed through my hair. I couldnt wait to leave the salon, even though I felt sorry for them as they were being assessed! But the worst of all was because it was on low heat, my calf lick was still there, standing tall and proud… the shame of it all! So, in conclusion, there was my worst hair day in all its glory – and I would absolutely adore those GHDs and styling products if they are up for grabs! (worth a cheeky try hey?) Thanks for the chance. (Also liking & sharing on Facebook as well as RT & favouriting on Twitter @LindseyClark20)
