I have been writing money saving posts for my blog for four months
now. I love sharing my money saving ideas, tips and recently voucher
codes too. To make the posts even more helpful I'm going to introduce a
format for these posts. I love a format almost as much as I love a
list, it appeals to my uptight organised side and helps me to keep on
top of things.
So the plan is to each week share a money saving tip, and some voucher codes. So here goes;
Money saving tip of the week:-
If your children love the movies but you don't want to break the bank
have a home cinema experience. Last weekend my family did just this. My
eldest carefully made us all tickets for the show. We chose a movie (we
have Lovefilm streaming but you could rent one or choose from your DVD
collection) and Purpledad made popcorn. It was really special and saved
us the £30 plus it would usually cost us to all go to the cinema...

Money Saving Tips
By The Man About Town
Just when I thought there were no more technological decisions to be made in my flat, along comes one I wasn't expecting. Certain conundrums were laid to rest a long time ago – iPhone vs Blackberry; iPhone wins – PlayStation 3 vs Xbox; PS3 wins – Laptop vs Macbook: Macbook wins – and knowing where you stand on key decisions like that makes life so much easier.

Do not adjust your glasses, the title to the post really does state that Black Sabbath have reformed for a World Tour featuring the complete, original line-up. That means that Ozzy Osbourne will be joining Tony Iommi, Geezer Butler and Bill Ward to give fans a very rare opportunity.

This weekend, one topic of conversation cropped up more than any other. It wasn't who was going to win the world cup. It wasn't that Man City won 6-1 in the City against Utd. It wasn't even how jealous my mates were about the fact I'm off golfing in South Africa in less than four weeks – did I mention that? It was that the Stone Roses were reforming and playing in Manchester soon.

This Friday sees the release of the new movie I Don't Know How She Does It starring Sarah Jessica Parker as the lead role, Kate Reddy, her first main character since Carrie Bradshaw from Sex in the City. Adapted from the book of the same name, the movie is basically a humourous take on the hardships that working women face. Now, I know the book became a best seller when it was published in 2002 but it irritated me, partly because Kate is such a pain in the proverbial but mostly because, unlike most of us, she is not the 'typical working mother' the author is trying to pass her off as...for starters, hands up everyone who can afford a nanny or a maid, let alone both? Exactly!
In the UK almost 70 per cent of mothers work, that's nearly 5.4 million
of us and, even more surprisingly, a third of all mothers work full
time. Admittedly, many women do it because they want to and that's just
fine but, by and large, most mothers work because financial needs
dictate to them. We certainly don't do it because we want to pay a
housekeeper to keep our homes clean and tidy and a nanny to bring up our
kids. In fact, for most of us, those would be the first expenses to go
if it meant we could then afford not to work.

School may be out for summer but many Brits won't
be taking a holiday over the next few weeks because they need to save money.
Financially stressed Brits
are not taking time off work because they simple can't afford it. Mounting
workloads and fears of being made redundant mean that nearly a quarter of
people are staying put this summer.
Research by
Swiftcover has
found that those aged between 45 and 54 are most likely to sacrifice their
holiday this year, with 28% of 16 to 24 year olds not taking time off either. Of those who do intend on
taking a summer break, 1.5 million people will carry out work related duties
whilst on holiday and a further 1.25 million UK holidaymakers admit that they
will make regular calls to the office whilst away, too.
