Yesterday saw the launch of the new food labelling system which health experts hope all supermarkets and food manufacturers in the UK will eventually follow.
The system follows a simple 'traffic light' colour coding which is aimed at helping consumers to see at a glance how healthy or unhealthy their shopping is.
The labels will appear on the front of all pre-packaged foods produced by all the major supermarkets, including the 'top 5'
Tesco, Sainsbury's,
Asda, Morrisons and Waitrose, along with major food manufacturers like Mars, Nestle and Premier Foods.

Who doesn't love the weekly shop? A full hour or so of our lives dedicated to picking out the choicest items from our local supermarkets, with a few treats thrown into the basket for good measure along with the all important 'essentials'.
My basket is normally full of items that reflect a diet of all things health-conscious, with a selection of hummus dips sitting beside a Quorn cottage pie or a miniscule loaf of gluten-free bread accompanied by a large jar of organic peanut butter.
But I have to confess that on more than one occasion a bumper sized pack of rich tea or a large chunk of French brie, has made its way from the isle to the checkout. I am human, after all.

How to get your nearest and dearest back around the table.
In an ideal world, families up and down the country would end the day sitting around a pristine dining table enjoying a hearty meal while sharing tales of the various goings-on from their day.
Yet sadly it seems that the frantic pace of everyday life has meant that many families have forgone the pleasures of quality time over a hot dinner for the convenience of a meal in front of the TV or on-the-run.
Research from Santander Home Insurance has revealed that 8% of working families can only carve out one night a week to dine together while a further 15% feel that they can only afford the time allowed for a family meal once or twice on the weekend.

Family Life
Couples across the UK prepare to have the cockles of your heart thoroughly warmed as Valentine's Day is almost upon us.
For many, preparations for the celebration of all things love and romance will already be under way, with many pulling out all the stops in an effort to show their other halves just how special they are.
However, marking this annual day d'amour doesn't necessarily have to involve over-the-top displays of affection, hot air balloon rides at sunset anyone?
After all, Bishop Valentine, whose legend we invoke each February 14th demonstrated his love by simply passing a note to the object of his desire with the words "from your Valentine".
