Their fundamental pledge
TREE AID stands together with people living in the drylands of Africa, unlocking the potential of trees for growing their way out of poverty and improving their natural environment.
Our teams work in some of the harshest places on earth, helping some of the poorest communities in Africa to thrive. We plant trees that restore and enrich environments, and empower people to grow nutritious foods from trees to eat and sell.
Did you know...
… that trees can survive drought even when other crops fail?
One of the trees that we plant is the Moringa tree. It is drought resistant, so ideal in the hot, dry countries we work in. The leaves of the Moringa tree are one of the world’s most nutritious vegetables, containing more vitamin C than oranges, more calcium than milk and more iron than spinach! Perfect for fighting malnutrition.
What makes Tree Aid different
We were founded by foresters in 1987, so we know our trees! With TREE AID, it’s the trees that create thriving, sustainable communities in remote and isolated areas of Africa. Our approach empowers communities with skills and tools that they can continue using long into the future. We provide:
• trees and seedlings to grow food, improve the environment and much more
• training to grow and care for trees, set up tree nurseries, and earn a sustainable income
• tools such as buckets, pestles, mortars, wheelbarrows and even bicycles!
