Kids across the country burst out of school gates on Friday with impossibly big grins on their faces. Half term! A whole week with no school uniform, no teachers, no long division... it's a happy thought for many a child.
Parents across the country, on the other hand, trudged out of the office with unfeasibly worried looks on their faces. Half term, sigh. A whole week with the kids at home...how on earth can they be kept entertained for NINE days in a row?
Over a third of parents say that February half term requires the most effort on their part when it comes to entertaining the kids, with more than four in ten mums and dads blaming the uncongenial weather for compelling them to splash the cash on expensive excursions and even gifts to steer symptoms of boredom away from the brood.

Family Life
Christmas: the holiday most dreaded by men.
December sees men everywhere shudder in horror as they are asked by their female counterparts to accompany them on the gift shop, the food shop and, since the sales have arrived early this year (hurrah!), the inevitable party outfit shop.
A recent survey by MyHigh.St has unearthed some pretty horrific figures that may make men think twice before reluctantly agreeing to join their other half on a festive shopping spree.
Britain's 12 million married men will be wasting a collective 193 years if they make the decision to join their spouse on shopping trips.
This is because the average woman apparently spends a whopping one hour and 41 minutes deciding whether to buy a garment or pair of shoes, with the man in their life going quietly out of their mind as they listlessly meander down aisle after aisle of items that have nothing to do with football or computer games.
However, with over half of women admitting they never wear an average of six items of clothing and three pairs of shoes in their wardrobe, some 87 million garments stay firmly on the hanger, meaning that female Brits are wasting a whopping £2.1 billion on clothes.

Christmas and New Year
Over a third of people will dip into their savings this Christmas to cover the cost of the festive season and some will even use their overdraft. According to a recent MoneySupermarket poll, some 24% will use an existing savings account to finance the winter holiday and an organised 10% will use a savings scheme which they've been adding to throughout the year.
With a maximum of just two more paydays until Christmas, one in ten people will be rocking a financial hangover in the New Year as they plan to put festive spending on a credit or store card.
Plastic not-so-fantastic
While plastic can be a temporary solution to low disposable income, one expert has been warning shoppers of the dangers of opting for increasingly popular cashback cards.
Sarah Pennells, founder of the Savvywoman financial website, said that this type of card is appealing mostly to high spenders, as customers would generally need to spend well in excess of £1,000 a month to make the card "truly worthwhile".

Money Saving Tips
I have to say the last few weeks have been pretty sweet. I moved back to the seaside down down South that is my home, forfeited my monthly rent for a few household chores and enjoyed an affordable social life thanks to being lucky enough to have a job over the summer. And then, this little snippet of news brought me back down to earth with one heck of a bump. This year, like thousands of other students up and down the country, my day to day living expenses are going to be £42 a month more!
