Father’s Day Gift Guide 2019: A Gift for Every Dad

Father's Day Banner

With Father’s Day just around the corner – Sunday 16th June for those of you that had forgotten – now’s the perfect time to find a unique gift for your dad.

If traditional gifts like socks and mugs have run their course, why not make this year the year you buy him something he’ll truly love? Something that lets him know how much he means to you without being tacky or boring.

We know no two dads are the same, and if your old man is already super hard to buy for on birthdays, we’ll bet he’s even harder to find a Father’s Day gift for. Fear not – we’ve put together an awesome gift guide packed with original and quirky present ideas to match your dad’s one-of-a-kind personality.

Have a flick through the interactive guide below and let us know in the comments what type of dad you have and what pressie you think he’d love from our gift guide. Our favourite will win their chosen gift – guaranteed to put a smile on dad’s face this year. Find out more about this exciting giveaway at the end of the blog post.

Whether he geeks out to video games or has a style on par with David Beckham, we’re certain you’ll find a wicked present whatever his ‘thing’ is.

Father’s Day gift guide

Which dad is your number one?

Whether it’s his cheesy jokes that no one laughs at except him or his love for pottering around in the garden – even if it’s raining – there are a million things that make your dad your dad. Perhaps it’s the way he always knows when something’s up – even when you don’t.

Or maybe it’s his treasure trove of useless facts he so proudly reels off at the dinner table. Which dad do you have?

The Classic Dad

dad asleep in front of tv in armchairThe classic dad comes complete with cringe dad dancing moves and his beloved Faulty Towers box set. It’s not uncommon to see him catching flies in his favourite armchair in front of the telly on a Sunday afternoon. If not, he’ll be reading the newspaper with a cuppa while sporting his favourite slippers.

Aside from dozing in front of his favourite BBC 70s sitcoms, the classic dad can be found putting his useless trivia to good use at the local pub quiz. Try as they might, his team ‘The Village Idiots’ are yet to be crowned pub quiz winners – next Wednesday at 8pm it is, then!

Treat him to an indulgent Father’s Day hamper from Virginia Haywards – complete with chunky chocolate and cream chocolate perfect for snacking in front of the telly. How about the premium leather two belt set from Jeff Banks?

Although he tends to stick to his favourite pair of supermarket-brand jeans, these sleek leather belts are the perfect addition for a little upmarket finish.

The Foodie Daddad grilling at bbq

The foodie dad is the king of the barbeque, and from May to August he can be found at the local food market, out grilling some sausages on the barbie, or chilling out with his new favourite craft beer.

Speaking of craft beer, he loves experimenting with different flavours but still has a penchant for his favourite draught lager at the pub.

His love for food and drinks knows no bounds, so much so that he’s even tried his hand at creating his own marinades and chutneys and brewing his own beer. While they weren’t as delicious as he made out, you still took five pots home with you because, well, he’s your dad.

Start his day right with an original Chambord coffee maker from Bodum– black with one sugar, just how he likes it. Or let loose and spend some quality time with him at a Whiskey Tasting for Two event courtesy of BuyAGift – does he really know his single malt from his Irish?

The DIY Dad

dad with drillIs your dad a DIY dad? His toolbox is his pride and joy and you’ll see pigs fly before you see him call the local plumber for a helping hand.

A perfect Saturday in the eyes of DIY dad is cracking on with his little home projects, from repainting the bannister to fixing that dodgy pipe in the bathroom. You name it, chances are he’s already worked out his plan of action.

After a day of fixing up here and drilling there, the DIY dad will retire to his workshop at dusk. although he has been known to power on even when it gets dark.

Not one for fashion, he’d much rather be spotted in paint-splattered overalls down the local B&Q over anything else, and his excitement when it comes to power tools and different screw types is almost infectious. Almost.

We’re sure his beloved toolbox is already in top nick, but he could never say no to a shiny new Black & Decker power drill from Argos. After a hard day of grafting, why not coax him back inside with a different kind of tool kit he can get to work one – a scrummy chocolate one from Not on the High Street.

The Cool Dadcool dad with sunglasses

We all know a cool dad – the one who’s definitely been mistaken for your older brother before. He’s always up for a swift pint, and probably knows more about Foot Locker’s latest collection than you do.

He loves being the centre of attention – but never in a cocky way, and you always find it a tad embarrassing when your school mates start swooning over him.

You’ve definitely seen him wearing the same t-shirt as your brother before, and – hats off to him – he actually pulls it off with style (most of the time).

He takes care of his appearance and is proud of the fact his fragrance collection is bigger than most women’s – a man should smell nice, after all.

Treat him to some fresh kicks for his trainer collection from FitFlop or a sleek black Timex watch from The Watch Hut you just know he’ll style with ease. The men’s shaving gift set from Gillette is a fool-proof gift idea for any dad who loves to look good. That preened beard won’t groom itself.

The Active Sporty Dad

dad golfing Is your dad into his sports? Or perhaps he’s just fanatic about the benefits of fresh air and spending time in the great outdoors.

Whether it’s football, golf, tennis, darts or cricket, you can bet he’ll be up to speed on the scores of all of them, and you may have even caught him up at 3am one night catching up with the Masters highlights.

An annual family camping trip is his idea of brilliant fun, even if it does hammer down with rain the whole time. After all, there’s no better combination than family time and fresh air.

Despite the fact that he used to wake you up at the crack of dawn so you didn’t ‘miss half the day’, his zest for life is the reason you love him.

Get him kitted out in the latest official England FC kit from England Store – he’ll truly look the part next time he’s watching the footy. Or perhaps he’d love a new pair of golf gloves from Jam Golf to bring his A-game to the course.

The Triple G: Geeky Gamer Gadget Daddad with remote control drone

Maybe your dad is what we like to call the Triple G – he’s geeky, he’s a gamer, and he’s a complete fiend for the latest gadgets. His obsession with cars and trains is bordering on weird, and every now and again he’ll dust off his old coin collection and brandish it with pride.

Despite his love of all things collectable and geeky, he’s fascinated by the latest tech and finds the concept of voice recognition and ‘Alexa’ truly mind-boggling.

He’s introverted but not shy, and always seems to be donning a new slogan tee every time you pop home for a cuppa. And while he’s not exactly the life and soul of the party, he’s happiest in his own little bubble.

The Triple G needs a hi-tech gift that’ll keep him entertained for hours. The range of techy gadgets and gizmos at John Lewis will certainly make his eyes light up, while we’re sure he’d be over the moon with another geeky tee for his collection from Zavvi.

Slippers, cuppa, loungewear and the odd forty winks here and there. His lad has a good role model for sure and wr wouldn’t change him for the world.

I think my dad is a category all of his own, a sort of reluctant DIYer/ grumpy old man mix up! He’s never happier than when he’s got a job to do, fixing things up, tinkering with the car and getting in to a grump about it, he’s in his element but he’ll be sure to moan about doing it! I’d choose the Halfords gift voucher so he could choose some sort of obscure tool that nobody else quite understands. He’s a diamond really I’m only joking, he does so much for me and really deserves spoiling!

He has been obsessed with Apple pre iPod shuffle and is able to set up any new piece of technology for the home! He wears his geek status with pride (not all Superhero’s wear capes!)

He would appreciate the Hawkins Bazaar giftcard to select something hing completely unique and of interest to him at the time as he has such a wealth of interests. It would probably go towards a drone as that seems to be the piece of tech that he talks about a lot at the moment, but I would have no idea on where to start with purchasing one for him!!!

He is a creature of habit and happy to get clothes for presents. The Boss T shirts would be great as he still thinks he has got it at 71!
