Summer 2016 is officially here and whether you’re praying for a hot July and August in the UK or have an exotic holiday booked, you’ll most likely be shopping for a new swimsuit now or in the coming weeks. Now as a woman myself, I appreciate that us ladies come in all different shapes and sizes, and we’re not all lucky enough to pull off some of the bikinis we see on supermodels.
My point exactly.
So to help you pick out a new cossie that flatters your fabulous figure, I’ve rounded up some of my favourite styles of the season and divided them up so you can choose a style that accentuates your best bits and disguises your problem areas.
“I want to cover my thighs”
If you want to cover up your thighs then opt for swimwear with a bit more fabric on the bottom half. A little skirt will draw attention away from your thighs, and high-waisted styles are perfect for elongating the legs.
These are the kinds of cuts you want to be shopping for:
Here’s my top pick out of all the thigh disguising swimwear in the fashion world right now: Floozie by Frost French Multi-coloured floral print skirt bikini bottoms, Debenhams, £20
Busty girls need support from their swimsuit, so choose a bra shaped bikini top with underwired cups and thick straps to keep everything in place. I love these kind of cuts as they’re supportive without looking like underwear:
As a small busted gal I know that it is tempting to go for a swimsuit with inches of padding. But actually, ruffles, embellishments and bold prints can be just as effective at creating the illusion of curves. Colour blocking with white bikini tops will also flatter the chest area.
“Can you help me find swimwear that disguises my tummy?”
Tummies can easily be covered with some clever rouching or a peplum swimsuit, and lots of swimming costumes have built-in control panels if you’re really self conscious. High-waisted bikini briefs are still in style AND hold everything in – double bonus points. Add a plunging neckline for a cheeky distraction from the problem area!
Resist all temptation to try and cover up a large bum in a pair of boy shorts because I guarantee this will only make your booty look bigger. Stick to dark colours and choose a pair of bikini briefs that are cut high and showing a bit of cheek to minimise the appearance of your derriere. Just like these:
You can’t go wrong with these Black Premium High Leg Bikini Briefs from Next, £18
“I want to contain my curves and feel confident”
Plus size ladies! Make the most of your curves and embrace your shape! If you want to find something flattering to give you ultimate beach confidence, choose swimsuits with dark side panels to slim your silhouette, or perhaps try a swimdress? They’re everywhere at the moment. This is the kind of curvaceous swimwear we love:
Cut out swimsuits are just perfect for long torsos since they break up the body and emphasise the curve of your waist. Other ideas include high cut bikini bottoms and extra embellishment to make the most of your midsection, just like these fab swimsuits do:
