Learn more about Bliss

Bliss was founded in 1979 by a group of concerned parents who discovered that no hospital had all the equipment it needed to safely care for premature and sick babies. Today, Bliss exists to give every baby born premature or sick in the U.K. the best chance of survival and quality of life. They do this by empowering families with the knowledge and skills to care for their babies, supporting health professionals to deliver high-quality care, influencing policy and practice to represent the voices and interests of babies in care, and enabling life-changing research to improve the quality of life of premature and sick babies for generations to come.

How they support: Supporting parents and healthcare professionals

Bliss offers emotional and practical support to empower families and equip them with the knowledge and skills they need to provide the best care to their babies. Bliss provides information about caring for premature and sick babies at every stage of their neonatal journey, and after going home. A crucial element of Bliss’ work is the emotional support they offer to parents through their volunteer services – both face-to-face, over video calls and email. Volunteers, known as Bliss Champions, are available on units as the vital link between parents, unit staff, and Bliss services, ensuring families of premature and sick babies have access to the information and support that they need. Around 95% of families Bliss surveyed said that they would recommend their services to other families with a neonatal experience.

Ways you can help: Donate, donate, donate

Donating to Bliss is an easy, effective, and selfless way to ensure that all the premature and sick babies reliant on the charity are provided with top-quality care and have a great quality of life. Here is what each donation could cover:

  • £10 can help provide vital emotional support to a parent when they need it most, helping them give the best support to their baby.
  • £20 can help support the Bliss Baby Charter for neonatal units across the U.K. so doctors and nurses can ensure babies have access to family-centred care.
  • £50 can help support vital neonatal research, which is responsible for significant improvements in the care and treatment of babies born premature or sick.

Other ways you can help: Play the Bliss lottery
