Buttle UK has over 60 years of experience of supporting children who are affected by serious financial hardship. They provide intelligently tailored grants of up to £2,000 to remove the material barriers to a child or young person’s education and wellbeing.

This grant is called the Chances for Children grant which is a holistic package designed to meet the multiple needs of vulnerable children and young people in financial struggles who may have any number of support needs. They could be fleeing domestic abuse, living in kinship care arrangements, estranged from family or have experienced homelessness, neglect or poor physical and mental health. Following on from donations the charity commission research and undertake projects based on insights from their grant giving.

You might be surprised to find out

The legacy that Frank Buttle left means every penny given goes directly to the children that need it most. This is the case since Buttle UK can cover all of its own administration costs.

The money you raise could fund a bed for a child who had previously been sleeping on the floor, counselling to a young boy who has fled an abusive home with his mother or a laptop to support a homeless teenager begin their first college course.

Last year Buttle UK gave out over 3,000 children’s beds; one of their most commonly requested items. The charity’s research indicates that up to 400,000 children in the UK could be without a proper bed of their own.

Buttle UK receives applications from across the UK from a unique network of 4,000 referral organisations, allowing the organisation to track spending to make sure it reaches those who need it most.

So far the charity has given £4,606,856 in donations and 13,513 grants. They have supported 35,439 children so far and can increase that with your generosity.

How donations make an impact

£10 will provide a swimming lesson for a child that needs an escape after witnessing domestic abuse.

£25 will provide bedding for a child who previously slept on the floor under their coat.

£50 will provide a uniform for a trainee chef giving them the chance of developing a career and a better life.

Other ways to support

Buttle UK regularly reviews both the range and efficacy of their grant programmes and compares them against national child poverty statistics to see which areas of the UK refer fewer cases than expected given the known level of need. The charity is always grateful to supporters who are willing to assist outreach efforts in these areas and to raise the positive public profile of the organisation, its grant programmes and the issues their clients face.

In addition, help Buttle UK end child poverty in the UK by organising a run. For Example, one of their supporters ran a 50K which managed to raise £300. This amount can help the charity provide 2 new beds for young people sleeping on the floor.
