Kidneys for Life

Kidneys for Life is a charity funding research into kidney disease, dialysis, transplantation, and related diseases that affect the kidneys. It also directs and organises patient amenities for renal and transplant patients which are not otherwise funded.

On top of this, they provide support for the education of renal multi-disciplinary team and patients, and for conferences and workshops relating to kidney disease and the purchase of medical equipment.

Did you know...

Kidney disease is a major health issue in the UK. Nationally, around 180,000 people have been diagnosed with kidney disease and a further 37,000 currently have end-stage renal failure and are receiving life-saving treatments.

That’s one in six people in the UK who have suffered or will suffer from chronic kidney disease at some point in their life. And according to the UK Renal Registry that number is set to increase, too. That’s why Kidneys for Life’s work is so important - part of the research funded by Kidneys for Life looks to detect symptoms of the disease earlier. This will, in turn, prevent sufferers going on dialysis or needing a transplant.

What makes Kidneys for Life different

At the heart of the charity are research projects. Their research team works in the largest renal unit in the country to help find a way to transform the lives of kidney disease patients.

Over the last five years they’ve funded over £655,000 to research projects, and they work hard to ensure that the funds they raise can continue to help award-winning research and make a kidney for life a reality.

They work with three hospitals in the north of England to maintain and reach their research objectives; Manchester Royal Infirmary, Royal Manchester Children’s Hospital, and Salford Royal Hospitals.
