Rays of Sunshine was set up in 2003 with a mission to help brighten the lives of seriously ill or terminally ill children in the UK aged between 3 and 18, and to help families form lasting memories and see their children's wishes come true.

The charity's work offers a distraction from the daily routines of hospital appointments and treatment; instead giving the child an opportunity to do something that they've dreamed of. The charity grants individual wishes and hospital ward wishes, including outings for large groups of seriously ill children.

Did you know...

There are currently 49,000 seriously ill children in the UK. Each year on average 2,500 new children are diagnosed with a serious or life-limiting illness. Rays of Sunshine is aiming to grant 1,000 individual wishes, 40 hospital wards wishes and entertain thousands more children throughout our events and hospital activity programme by the end of 2015.

Rays of Sunshine has granted more than 4,500 individual wishes in total, and in a recent YouGov survey conducted amongst medical referrers (paediatric consultants and play specialists), 97% agreed that having a wish granted has a positive effect on the health of a child who has a life shortening or serious illness.

What makes Rays of Sunshine different

Rays of Sunshine exists not just to support the children, but the whole family. The charity keeps in touch with wish children after their wish has been granted and invites them along to events and outings. Our wish families feel that they become a part of the Rays of Sunshine family.

Other ways to support

You can also get involved by volunteering to help out at events;

Signing up to take part in a sporting challenge, recommending the charity to your company or your child's school as a charity of the year, spreading the word about the amazing work that they do or donating gifts in kind to benefit the charity's wish children.
