Sense Scotland works in partnership to support and promote the interests of children, young people and adults who have communication support needs arising from a range of disabilities including, but not limited to deaf blindness, sensory impairment, learning or physical disability.

The charity aims to lead the field in communication support and innovative person-centred services for people who are marginalised because of the complexity of their support needs, their health care requirements and their behaviour which, at times, can be challenging of conventional service models.

Their fundamental pledge

They deliver services which provide choice and continuity across all age groups and work closely with the individuals they support, their families and carers, and with professionals working in this field.

Did you know...

Sense Scotland was formalised as a charity in 1985. It grew quickly from its beginnings as a small group of families pressing for services for their children, who were themselves affected by deaf blindness, many because of maternal rubella. Since then, the organisation has gone on to successfully support thousands of disabled people and their families, in thousands of projects and services, throughout Scotland.

In 2015, the charity celebrated its 30th Birthday and its Chairperson and founding family member Roy Cox was awarded an OBE by Her Majesty the Queen for his services to the charity.

Unicef wasn’t the only charity involved in the 2014 Commonwealth Games! Sense Scotland was delighted to be asked to create the number 12 as part of the countdown for the opening ceremony.
