Governors for Schools

Active since 1999, Governors for Schools believes that the key to improving school performance is effective governance. Their aim is to improve educational standards so that children and young people have the chance to realise their full potential. The charity receives no statutory funding so they still need your generosity to help continue their efforts to improve the education system. Effective governance translates into better opportunities and systematic change allowing young people to thrive in their education.

The governing board consists of 12 governors and meetings take place every 6 to 12 weeks. It’s the governing board’s job to set the strategic direction of the school. The role of Governors is to support and challenge the headteacher and make sure public money is well spent.

How can supporters go above and beyond?

Want to improve education? You are more powerful than you think! Turn your ideas into action and keep your brain active after school. Volunteer as a school governor. This gives people the opportunity to improve yourself personally and professionally, while giving back to your community.
