Their fundamental pledge
To meet the needs of misunderstood or overlooked individuals and communities in our area; to be a voice for the unheard - supporting and empowering them to overcome difficulties and barriers to enable change for positive life outcomes.
Did you know..
We are a group of projects that seek to address key gaps in needs in the local community. We are currently: -
Engage Befriending - connecting isolated older people with their communities through regular visits from a volunteer befriender
FIRST Stop Bus - a community resource helping improve safety & health in Reading, particularly in the night time economy.
The Rahab Project - identifying, supporting & empowering anyone affected by exploitation
Reading Lifeline - counselling & support for those facing infertility, loss in pregnancy or postnatal depression
Starting Point - mentoring & work experience for 16-25yr olds who are NEET (not in education, employment or training)
What makes The Mustard Tree different
The Mustard Tree has a localised model enabling us to serve our communities according to specific need, motivated by a Christian ethos. We partner with local community and faith groups and statutory organisations. This enables us to reach the most marginalised and make a difference not just in the lives of individuals but to the benefit of the wider community
Other ways to support
We are always looking for volunteers for all our projects – become a befriender for an isolated older person, volunteer for Rahab in daytime or night-time outreach and support, become a mentor to a NEET, or volunteer for First Stop Bus in the night time economy, share your skills as a counsellor, volunteering for Lifeline, donate your time and skills (admin, IT etc.), donate clothes or toiletries or fundraise for us!
