I have decided to start a weekly post, giving you 5 ways in 5 days to make changes, that hopefully will become habit over the weeks and months. Five ways in five days to make autumn savingsDo not buy a coffee on the way in to work. Have a go at making your own.Close the curtains as soon as dusk comes. Keep the warm in and the cold out.Collect seeds from any of your flowers, you can swap these with other gardeners rather than buying new next year.Learn how to make your own pastry. Home made pies are frugal as you can use leftovers and so much nicer than shop bought ones.check your car's lights, a new bulb is so much cheaper than a fine from the police for driving with a headlight out.

Money Saving Tips
Now, whilst a number of you probably spent your Bank Holiday weekend recuperating from an active night out, I had something very different on the agenda. Bracing the cold outside, I spent a few hours lying on the ground, looking under a car. No, I hadn't lost my keys or an earring – I was attempting to help my dad change the disc brakes on an old car.
Now, while I didn't really do much (except for help bleed the brake
system by operating the brake pedal and put two wheels back on) I did
manage to get a glimpse at some of my father's innovative ways of saving
money.
With financial troubles set to continue throughout 2012,
many of you may feel that saving money on something as important as your
car is a very worthwhile exercise. The truth is that a number of jobs
you pay a garage to complete could actually be carried out by yourself
providing you take the time to research it and take guidance from a
professional. Garages can charge as much as £50 an hour in labour costs
and this means that even small jobs could end up costing you a small
fortune.

Tesco have announced upcoming reductions to their petrol prices. Good news for cash strapped motorists?
The decision by
Tesco
to reduce their fuel prices by an additional two pence per litre is the
second reduction at the pumps in the last week. The Tesco move was
preceded by a similar movement by
Asda earlier in the week and is the result of falling crude oil prices.
For
the previous few months petrol prices have been steadily increasing and
hitting record levels. The rising costs left many struggling to keep
their cars on the road.

Money Saving Tips
By The Man About Town
A single man in London who likes to spend but who likes to save even
more!
I have a strange relationship with cars and it's fair to say
the act of driving has never come naturally to me. Some people were born to drive but I think I
was born to get lifts! When I was 17 I
failed my driving test which, as it turns out, could well have been a blessing
in disguise – God knows what could have happened if I'd been in charge of a car
at that age…not worth thinking about. Once the rot had started to set in, it took me a while to pass it and
even when I did I didn't do anything with it.
Living in London means you don't really have to drive if you don't want
to but a new era is dawning – it could be time to stay off the roads as The
Man About Town is looking for a car.
