World Cup 2014 Party Ideas

Only a week to go until Brazil vs. Croatia kicks off the 2014 World Cup, and at Savoo we have been struck down with serious football fever. On Saturday 14th England will be playing their first match against Italy, and if this isn’t the perfect excuse for a party then we don’t know what is! Here are our favourite Brazilian themed party, food and drink ideas from around the web to help you plan a bash to remember (even if England falls flat on its feet).

The Venue

TV: A world cup party wouldn’t be complete without a huge TV as the main feature. If you are planning on splashing out on a new flat screen television for the occasion (for die hard sports fans only) then head over to Argos and save up to £100 on selected models with free delivery.

Projector: Want the big screen effect in your own living room? All you need is a power source and a flat surface for an instant 100-inch screen (space permitting!); take a look at Light in the Box for range of affordable projectors for a true cinema-like experience.

Bets: Get a World Cup sweepstake going with your guests- there are hundreds of sweepstake kits ready to be printed off online. If you fancy a flutter yourself then head over to William Hill and get a free £25 bet when you bet £25.

Bunting: Don’t just stick to red and white décor; give your party a global theme and string up all the flags of competing nations. Party Packs has a great selection of bunting including England, Italy and Brazil.

BBQ: Churrasco is the Brazilian term for a BBQ, and if you want to impress your guests with your South American flare then a disposable grill just won’t cut it; fire up a gas BBQ for an authentic Brazilian feast, like the Bondi G450 4 Burner currently on sale at B&Q.

Food and Drink

Pao de queijo: A crispy ball of cheesy heaven, this traditional Brazilian snack will have your guests going back for seconds. Try this recipe from thekitchn.com to make your own pao de queijo.

Coxinhas: Created in the shape of a chicken drumstick, coxinhas have a crispy battered exterior surrounding a layer of soft dough and shredded chicken. Drooling? You should be! Make your own with this recipe from Nigella.

Beijinho de Coco: A sweet snack, these little coconut kisses are always a crowd pleaser. Thanks to allrecipes.com you can whip them up yourself in a few hours.

Grilled caipirinha chicken skewers: Succulent BBQ’d chicken coated with chillies, brown sugar, lime and mint; need we say more? Get it here.

Brazilian beef kebabs: Apparently these BBQ’d kebabs will get your taste buds dancing to a new beat, and judging by the recipe (which includes rump steak, garlic and paprika) we are already convinced.

Mango and tomato salad: Inspired by the flavours of Brazil, this salad with mango and avocado will accompany your BBQ perfectly.

When it comes to choosing drinks for your World Cup party there are three standout choices: Traditional Brazilian beer (brahma), their national cocktail (caipirinha) and the non-alcoholic option of Guaraná Antarctica. And don’t forget, on key match days all Tesco stores in London will be selling world beers like Brahma and Corona.

Are you planning a World Cup party? We would love to hear your ideas!
