Leicester Animal Aid is a rehoming centre for cats and dogs. Every year, they care for more than 300 cats and dogs who are lost, abandoned, neglected, unwanted or relinquished because their owners can no longer look after them. Every animal is assessed by our experienced team and each one receives a warm bed, good food, training and enrichment, and plenty of love and attention until a forever home can be found. Their vision is happy pets in loving, responsible homes.

What makes Leicester Animal Aid

We are a local and independent Charity and have high quality standards.

Our focus at the Centre is enrichment, to ensure that the animals at the Centre are mentally and physically active. This is not only out of kindness, but it reduces anxiety and stress and ensures happy and healthy animals, ready and safe to go into new homes, and helps them to stay within their new homes for the long term.

We are a happy and positive Centre. Some have described our Centre as a holiday or spa for the animals!

We work in innovative ways, including working within the Community to help prevent relinquishment of animals. Our Community Pet Support Scheme helps those who are elderly, physically disabled and housebound with help to care for their companion animals within their own home for as long as is mutually beneficial. This means that best friends do not have to live with each other, which has a positive impact on both the human and animal in the relationship, mentally and physically.

We also work with children to educate them how to be safe around dogs, how to look after animals and we have education workshops for adults about dog and cat first aid, as well as reducing anxiety in companion animals.

Other ways to support

Donated items

Donated items for site are really valuable to us – dog and cat food, hot dogs, peanut butter, toys, beds, bin bags, blankets, bedding, washing up liquid, bleach, sterilising tablets etc are all really useful for direct animal care. These can be donated at the Centre, in local supermarket donation bins or via our Amazon wishlist.

We also have an on-site Charity shop, so any items for sale (clothes, linens, bric-a-brac, books, dvds etc) help to raise money for the Centre.

Volunteering

We have a mix of volunteering roles, from those linked to direct animal care, within the Charity shop team and fundraising volunteers (helping with events as fundraising activities). www.leicesteranimalaid.org.uk/volunteering

Social media

Sharing dogs and cats looking for homes online. We regularly update our Facebook page and appreciate those looking for homes being shared far and wide.

Events

Attending or organising our Charity events, these are anything from our on-site sales, quiz nights, bake sales to firewalks and skydives!
