Music and the Deaf is the only UK charity entirely dedicated to providing access and opportunities in music for deaf people of all ages, including the 45,000 deaf children living in the UK. Since its founding in 1988, Music and the Deaf has built a local, national and international reputation for pushing the boundaries of what deaf people can aspire to and achieve in music.

We believe that being able to participate in music making greatly assists in a person’s social, emotional, and intellectual development, regardless of their level of hearing, and we are committed to enriching lives through music.

Did you know...

We have been working to overcome the barriers facing children and adults with a hearing loss for 28 years.

We are a unique charity within the UK, and one of the very few organisations around the world, who believe in the value of music for deaf children and adults.

Our ground breaking projects aim to overcome the barriers faced by deaf people in accessing music and its many developmental benefits, and our knowledge and expertise is called on by organisations all over the world.

What makes Music and the Deaf different

Music and the Deaf is a one-of-a-kind charity. We work with deaf professional musicians who have a first-hand understanding of the benefits music can bring to a person with a hearing loss. Our charity has 28 years of experience working with deaf children, training teachers and inspiring them to support their deaf pupils, and pushing the boundaries for deaf people everywhere to encourage them to achieve their musical potential.

Other ways to support

Supporters can help us by fundraising for us, whether this involves baking, running, jumping out of a plane (with a parachute!) or putting on a concert in aid of us.

You can also help us by spreading the word about what we do, talking to your local school about how we can help them engage their deaf pupils in music, or simply follow us on social media and interact with us!
