Calm Mediation

We at Calm Mediation are passionate about making mediation available to the people who need it most. We do so by taking on cases from individuals, housing bodies and probation services - any case where parties are open to constructive conversation.

Our team rallies together to make sure that no referral falls between the cracks. No issue is considered too big or too small and cases include;

  • neighbours living with poor noise insulation

  • misunderstandings around different cultures and religions

  • providing a safe space for conversation between victims and offenders

Calm Mediation is an effective solution which protects, heals and empowers.

In an environment where community resources are stretched and limited, we rely on donations to keep supporting communities in conflict resolution to foster insight and understanding in place of prejudice and harassment.

Conflict can seriously affect people’s health and wellbeing. Instead of a place of refuge, home can become a place of tension and unhappiness. In these circumstances, people commonly suffer sleep loss and other symptoms of stress, which in turn may impact their physical health and ability to function well in their wider lives.

Did you know...

15.8 million work hours are lost each year because of mental health issues including stress, depression, anxiety according to the Office for National Statistics (2016 research by ONS).

Calm Mediation started in 1995, it used to stand for ‘Confidential and Local Mediation’ but now works across the UK.

We have 60 active volunteers!

What makes Calm Mediation different

Many charities address the concerns of humanity indirectly - for example, by providing blankets, shelter or other tangible goods. These in turn help to improve the quality of life for the individuals in question. In contrast, Calm works to address the intangible stresses and tensions that arise between people in conflict.

We believe that mediation has the power to improve lives. Sometimes the practicalities which give rise to conflict cannot be changed or at least not right away but mediation is able to go direct to the issue of interpersonal connection and foster collaboration.

Our work takes understanding, training, skill, and a lot of patience. This makes us, and the people that make Calm Mediation what it is, very special.
