Stockport Mind was set up by a group of volunteers in 1971 and is affiliated to National Mind, one of the leading mental health charities in England and Wales.

Stockport and District Mind strives to work towards a society where people who experience mental distress are supported in their recovery, empowered to reach their full potential, and they and their family/carers are free from stigma and discriminations.

Did you know...

Last year, Stockport and District Mind supported 1000 people with mental health problems and provided over 5000 recorded interactions. This equates to over 22,000 hours of direct support. We also see many people who just call into our offices in need of a supportive conversation and sometimes assistance to access specialist help as they have become seriously mentally unwell. We have delivered mental health awareness training to over 1100 people.

We have strong interest in research and are maintaining links with the University of Manchester. We have recently collaborated with the University of Manchester on a research project investigating people’s subjective experiences of mental health stigma as either a person with mental health problems, or a person who cares for someone with a mental health problem.

Other ways to support

There are lots of ways you can support Stockport Mind, whether it’s by taking part in an event, taking on a challenge, holding a quiz night, selling cakes, or running a marathon.

When you join or host an event for Stockport Mind, you’re doing more than just raising vital funds. You’re also joining thousands of others in sending a message that mental health matters.

However you decide to support us, we’re here to help make it as easy and as fun as possible. We’ll be there to support you every step of the way with training tips, fundraising advice and encouraging words. It’s the least we can do!

Fundraising packs will be available on our website soon.
