How WineBank and the Discovery Wine Club Actually Work

WineBank and the Discovery Wine Club are two ways you can save regularly at Virgin Wines, but they work in different ways. It's a good idea to know the difference before you join.

Understanding the WineBank

• Save £15-£100 a month: Choose how much you want to deposit, with £30 set as the default.
• Get 20% extra: Virgin Wines adds a 20% bonus to your balance, so depositing £30 gives you £36 to spend.
• Spend when you want: There's no fixed delivery schedule, giving you more control over when you use your balance.
• Wine only: Your WineBank balance can be spent on wines and wine cases, but not beer, spirits or gifts.
• Extra member prices: BeerSave and SpiritSave give members special prices on other drinks, although you'll pay for these separately.
• No contract: You can cancel your WineBank membership whenever you choose.

Understanding the Discovery Wine Club

• Five cases a year: Receive 12 wines every quarter, plus an additional case at Christmas.
• Pay £11.49 per bottle: Members are guaranteed to save at least 15% on each regular delivery.
• Save more on your first case: New members can get their introductory case for around £5.49 per bottle, saving approximately £75 against the individual full prices.
• You're still in control: Preview each case by email and swap wines or skip a delivery before it's dispatched.
• Allow for delivery: Each case has a £7.99 delivery charge, so factor this into the overall saving.
• Try wines with less risk: Virgin Wines's money-back guarantee can provide a collection or credit if you don't enjoy an eligible wine, subject to its guarantee conditions.

One thing to know: introductory welcome vouchers can't currently be activated through the Virgin Wines app. Activate yours on the website before using the app.

The Best Time to Get a Virgin Wines Discount

Virgin Wines automatically lowers prices on cases during specific sale periods. New-customer offers are highlighted at certain times of the year. Since Virgin Wines does not usually use checkout codes, there is no need to wait for one.

A January Sale has been tracked by Savoo in four years: 2013, 2019, 2024, and 2025. It usually starts in the first two weeks of January, offering 20% to 40% off wine cases without needing a Virgin Wines code.

There isn’t typically a voucher for the Black Friday event in November. Instead, there is a Black Friday sale with automatic discounts. These were either a set amount off selected cases or a percentage off the sale range, such as 31% off in 2024. The sale started in early to mid-November each year, before Black Friday week, and lasted about two to three weeks.

Christmas products at Virgin Wines, such as gift sets, advent calendars, and Christmas cases, have been offered in five out of fourteen tracked years. These usually run from early November through December and often overlap with the Black Friday sale.

How Discounts Work at Virgin Wines

Virgin Wines rarely offers voucher codes. Instead, savings are usually included in the product price or through the membership model. Savoo has tracked 117 deals over 14 years, but only three had checkout codes, and these were rare exceptions in 2013, 2022, and 2025.

Most Virgin Wines orders do not have a code field. Membership savings, such as WineBank's 20% deposit bonus and the Discovery Club's 15% minimum discount, are applied automatically for members. Sale prices are shown directly on the wine page during events. New member welcome offers are given through a special link, not a code. When you click the deal link here, the offer is activated automatically.

There is one rule for deals that use a voucher or promotional credit. Some vouchers mean you will not earn Virgin Red points for that order. WineBank interest top-ups also do not count for Virgin Red points, since only cash purchases qualify. Using vouchers or WineBank interest affects your Virgin Red points in different ways.
