My Life My Choice is a self-advocacy organization. Our vision is a world where people with learning disabilities are treated without prejudice and are able to have choice and control over their own lives.

Our mission is:

  • To make sure that there is independent support for people with learning disabilities in Oxfordshire to have their say, claim their rights and to take control of their own lives.

  • To make sure that the views of people with learning disabilities are taken seriously by both professionals in the services they use and the wider public.

  • To “Power Up" their lives so they can make a positive contribution to society.

Did you know...

  • It is important to us that we are independent and user-led – all 15 of our trustees have learning disabilities.

  • In 2017/18 we paid £20,695 to 42 people with learning disabilities.

  • We run 10 Monthly self-advocacy groups with a total of 153 different individuals attending last year.

  • Our Travel Buddy Program supported 27 people with learning disabilities to travel independently last year

  • We run a learning disability nightclub, Stingray, which is managed by a committee made up entirely of people with learning disabilities.

  • Our Power up team work with many incredible organisations including NICE, Oxford Brookes University, Ruskin College, Thames Valley Police, and the NHS to provide training and consultancy by people with learning disabilities.

What makes My Life My Choice different

Unlike many charities aimed at supporting people with learning disabilities My Life My Choice is proud to be user led; all 15 of our trustees are members with learning disabilities elected by their peers and we promote the voice of our members in every one of our projects.

Other ways to support

Fundraising in aid of My Life My Choice is always appreciated and we have support and ideas available on our website.

We also appreciate donations in kind and would be happy to hear from anyone who thinks they have skills which they could offer us.
