During Winter, Robes supports 80 guests through its night shelter, providing a safe, welcoming space during the coldest months. Robes also offers long-term support, helping people into sustainable housing. Robes has over 600 volunteers who have collectively given over 8,400 hours of their time to help keep services running and ensure every guest receives consistent care.

The shelter operates across Southwark and Lambeth, using churches and community halls to create a network of support. This winter alone, 28 churches provided their spaces free of charge, helping extend vital services to those who need them most.

What makes Robes Project different

Robes focuses on more than just immediate relief. Guests are welcomed with genuine hospitality, including a warm place to stay, regular meals, and meaningful human connections.

Volunteers play a key role in building friendships and creating a supportive environment, while a dedicated advice service helps guests take practical steps towards long-term housing.

One guest, David, described the charity as “lifesavers". Now settled in a housing association property, David has shared his journey to highlight the difference this support can make.

Other ways to support

There are plenty of ways to get involved, especially during the winter shelter season, which runs from November to April. Volunteering opportunities vary, offering hands-on ways to contribute time and support.
