Run 4 Cancer was set up in 2012 by a team of keen runners who had been affected by cancer. All had lost either a friend or family member to the illness, and aim to provide a running community for those who want to help people living with cancer at the same time.

Run 4 Cancer is a respite charity with a focus on sport. They provide British families affected by cancer the chance to escape from daily life and go on a day out or short break. Sometimes a bit of relaxation and restoration can do a world of good.

They also make grants to a number of UK-based care institutions as well as supporting vital research into the positive effects of exercise for cancer patients. Running alone can help prevent cancer and assist in post-diagnosis recovery. Run 4 Cancer is a division of the 4 Cancer Group and the other divisions are Sail 4 Cancer, Bike 4 Cancer and Ski 4 Cancer, all of which you can support for free through Savoo.

What makes Run 4 Cancer different

  • There are three main areas that the charity focuses on. Their primary goal is to provide a range of respite and breaks for families. The power of having something to look forward to, spending much needed time with family members after being in hospital and creating memories cannot be underestimated.

  • Run 4 Cancer also make grants to different palliative care institutions, recognising the importance of good quality palliative care for cancer patients and their families.

  • Finally, they aim to quantify the effects of their respite days and how they've helped lower stress levels. Stress is a huge aggravating factor of a wide range of medical conditions, including cancer. This research, as well as research into the effects of exercise is a hugely important part of the charity's work.
