Improving the quality of people's lives through the training and provision of support dogs

Did you know...

We have three main programmes:

  • Disability assistance – we train dogs to preform physical tasks adults may find painful or difficult.
  • Autism assistance – We train dogs to provide safety and aid communication for children with autism.
  • Epilepsy Seizure Alert – We train dogs to detect epileptic seizures before they happen and give an advanced warning.

We do not charge our clients for our dogs but raise all necessary funds through voluntary donations.

What makes Support Dogs different

  • We are the only charity in Europe to train dogs to detect epileptic seizure before they happen, providing independence and safety to our clients.

  • We are one of just two charities in the UK who train dogs to help children with autism.

  • Most of our dogs come from rescue centres or as unwanted pets.

  • We train client’s own pet dogs for our disability assistance programme.

Other ways to support

  • Our dogs are never placed in kennels during their training but live in a home environment with a host of Foster Carers who look after them when not at school. We’re always looking for Foster Carers in the Sheffield region. Email fundraising@supportdogs.org.uk to find out more.

  • Using websites like Savoo which help to fund our training programmes without any cost to our supporters!
