Retrak helps children living on the streets, many of whom have run away from physical or mental abuse, hard labour or have been sent away from home due to poverty or neglect. We work in Uganda, Ethiopia, Malawi, Kenya and now in Brazil and provide medical support, schooling and a safe place to stay for children while we reintegrate them back into safe families or foster care.

Did you know...

Our staff regularly go into slum areas, tips and known areas at night to let children on the street know there is an alternative. We also counsel families and work through the reasons why their children left home. We also help communities set up self-help-groups with small loans to fund their market trading activities. Retrak is a Christian charity, with 12 staff members in our UK HQ and 100 staff around the world.

What makes Retrak different

We provide research on the numbers of children living on the street and also the root causes of child neglect and abandonment. We work hard with outreach and social workers to help families, and entire communities, out of a situation where a child is forced to live away from home. Our model centres around the belief that a child thrives best in a loving family and our vision is a world where no child is forced to live on the street.

Other way to support

We need UK volunteers to help steward at our events, we also need people willing to speak at school assemblies and churches about our work. Pro bono design, advert media support is always valuable, as is supporting our work via social media.
