National Rheumatoid Arthritis Society

NRAS was founded in 2001 by Ailsa Bosworth, MBE who has lived with severe RA for over 35 years. We are ‘the voice’ of people affected by Rheumatoid Arthritis (RA) across the whole of the UK and in due course, we hope to be so for Juvenile Idiopathic Arthritis (JIA). We are the only UK charity devoted specifically to RA, and we launched a service for families, children, young people and adults affected by Juvenile Idiopathic Arthritis in 2014.

Did you know...

Over 400,000 people live with RA, more than those living with Parkinsons or Crohns’ Disease.
12,000 children under the age of 16 live with JIA.

RA and JIA are very misunderstood diseases and affect not only the person living with the disease, their family, friends and carers.

We are the only patient led charity in the UK who solely support those living with RA.

A quarter of people wait a year or more for a definitive diagnosis of RA. Even after diagnosis many patients can wait a further six months to find a treatment which starts working for them.

What makes NRAS different

We take pride in the fact that everything we stand for and do is patient-led and we are the only charity who solely focus on RA in this way.

Other ways to support
